IP Networking Practice Exam

About IP Networking
An IP network is a group of computers connected via their unique internet protocol (IP) addresses. Your employees can use these computers to securely send and receive information with each other.

The network allows one computer to use the internet to talk to another computer by gathering information and sending it directly to the other. Each computer connected to the network has its own IP address, which allows your employees to send information directly to the person they want.

There are three types of IP addresses used in a network:
•    Host Address: This address is unique to that individual and allows them to communicate one-to-one and with the network.
•    Network Address: This is the first IP address in the network. This address gives the hosts, who provide special network-related services, the ability to communicate with others.
•    Broadcast Address: This type of address allows the host to broadcast an announcement across the entire network.

Why is IP Networking important?
The advantages of TCP/IP protocol suite are
•    It is an industry–standard model that can be effectively deployed in practical networking problems.
•    It is interoperable, i.e., it allows cross-platform communications among heterogeneous networks.
•    It is an open protocol suite. It is not owned by any particular institute and so can be used by any individual or organization.
•    It is a scalable, client-server architecture. This allows networks to be added without disrupting the current services.
•    It assigns an IP address to each computer on the network, thus making each device to be identifiable over the network. It assigns each site a domain name. It provides name and address resolution services.
